The fire was so intense, with flames reaching dozens of meters high, that they could even see items being thrown out of the plant. "I live not far from here and was watching TV at home when I suddenly felt the house was shaking and then I heard a very loud explosion. I rushed to the window to look outside, I saw a sea of fire over there, as if the chemical plant was on fire. I hurriedly grabbed my cell phone and took a few photos to post online." Another eyewitness said.
It is reported that the enterprise that exploded and caught fire is Shandong Zhongwu Chemical Co Ltd (hereinafter referred to as Zhongwu Chemical), a manufacturing enterprise that produces and operates aerosol insecticides, mosquito coils, insecticidal sprays, baby diapers, baby diaper pads and other household hygiene products. The enterprise was founded in December 2019 with a registered capital of RMB 10 million and rented a plant as a production base in Wenshang County Chemical Industry Park.
As of press time, the fire has been extinguished, the cause of the accident and the casualties are still unclear, and the relevant departments are investigating and dealing with it. It is understood that the raw materials and products of Zhongwu Chemical contain a certain amount of flammable and explosive substances, such as clove oil, vinyl acetate, etc., which may be an important factor leading to the expansion of the fire.
